Another Package from Miss M!!!

I have a good friend, Miss M, whom I often podcast with (on both the Geek Fallout podcast and the Eclectic Mayhem podcast) whose blog, Diary of a Dorkette, is a MUST read, and with whom I also often exchange packages of pure FUN with on a semi-regular basis.

So another one of THOSE showed up a while ago, and in typical Goodwill Geek fashion, I have put off blogging about it for MUCH too long. So let's take a look at what Miss M sent my way, shall we?

First up there were some Star Wars toys included. The loose figure there is Zam Wessel, a shapeshifting bounty hunter whose right arm is removable as she gets it light-sabered off apparently? (Thanks Wookie-Pedia!) still on the card there is Jabba the Hutt lackey, Bib Fortuna! I freed him from his carbonite prison and quickly added him to my Star Wars shelf.

Here we have a Toothless and a Dragon trap from the series of toys put out to promote the second film (or the second film put out to promote the toys, depending on how cynical you feel like being...)

A few previous packages from Miss M had included X-Men characters that were missing some of the accessories. Miss M thoughtfully held onto these for me and included them here!

And finally, what I think are my absolute favorite items of the pack, this Miss Yvonne figure from the Pee-Wee's Playhouse line, and the Christmas card (this was meant to be a Christmas gift LAST YEAR... did I not mention that... since it is now MAY???) which definitely evokes Pee-Wee's Bicycle from the Pee-Wee's Big Adventure film. Miss Yvonne immediately started hanging off the shoulders of all the Masters of the Universe figures, which immediately made them all very uncomfortable, except for Prince Adam, who seemed to really get along well with her. 

Here's one last look at the box of pure FUN sent to me by Miss M! I want to make sure I send out a heartfelt THANK YOU to her, and make sure everybody knows what a great person and friend she is!

A Surprise Package From "Ryan"

So here's a post that's loooooooong overdue:

I received a package last year that was a really nice surprise. It just showed up out of the blue, with no expectations or demands attached. I'm not going to use the sender's full name here just in case, but I want to wholeheartedly thank "Ryan," who sent me this package. It has been forever since I received this stuff, and I want to make it clear that this package did not go unremarked. THANK YOU! Let's take a look at what the incredibly kind Ryan sent to me:

I owned a copy of the Black Hole novelization as a kid. For the longest time it was the only chapter book that I owned. As a kid I had a vague idea that this was some sort of horror novel, and so while I refused to give it up and get rid of it, I also refused to actually read it. I had never seen the Disney movie, and in fact still have not ever seen this Disney movie. I am aware of it's significance as some sort of Star Wars rip-off... but beyond that I have no idea. What's cool about having this book back in my possession is the childhood memories I have of holding onto this book, DARING myself to peek inside, as if some sort of horrific creature was going to pop out and snap my face off and drag it back inside. This thing makes me feel like I'm a kid again.

Anyone who has even casually browsed this blog will already know that I am a huge lover of Choose Your Own Adventure books and their many knock-off cousins. Which-Way Books are yet another of those brand-x CYOA book series that are just as fun as the originals. And when Vampires, Spies, and Alien Beings are involved... look out!

I'm not a huge fan of 101 Dalmations, to be completely honest, but I do love Happy Meal Toys, and the toy on the left side there is one of those completely bonkers vehicles where the top and bottom of the car both have a driving character that you can flip out to play with. So these are both pretty awesome. 

Also in that little package was this set of vikings from the How To Train Your Dragon bucket of Dragons set. I love that they gave these guys the little-plastic-army-men treatment! To be totally honest here too, I already own a set of these, but I genuinely love these so much that I don't mind showcasing them on the blog as much as humanly possible. The letter Ryan included with these items made it very clear that I should not feel obligated to keep anything here if I chose not to. I will definitely make sure that anything here I don't end up keeping will go on to a good home that will appreciate them the way they should be appreciated. 

I hate to play favorites... but I saved the absolute best item for last. This Kermit car is the bomb! This thing is from the Corgi line made back in 1979 and... I mean... KERMIT! This toy is just a classic!

Halloween Countdown Day 2: How To Train Your Dragon Gear!

So, to continue with the whole "let's get the Geek on here and dress him up like an idiot" theme I started yesterday... here are some costume pieces I picked up at Goodwill! I got these the very first day that I noticed the Halloween section was up and running at my local Goodwill. 

Know what they are? Huh? Huh? Do ya? They're from How to Train Your Dragon!!! Hiccup's Helmet and shield! There was supposed to be an ax in the set as well, but it was nowhere to be seen. Frown. BUT at least the cashier only charged me 1.99 for the two items. She recognized that these were part of a set and let me buy them together. That was pretty sweet. 

Oh great. Just look at this a**-hole.

When I got home, I discovered that 30+ years on this earth have not dampened my child-like sense of wonder. I put that s**t on!!! I paraded around like this for HOURS until my wife finally made me stop. I think trying to wear them to bed was the last straw.

But the fun didn't stop there! While not strictly a Halloween toy, dragons do fall into the monster category, and cute widdle Toofless from the Defenders of Berk line fits in nicely with Hiccup's gear above. So... consider that to be a segue into featuring this dragon toy I bought at Wal-Mart. Isn't he adorable? I already sneaked a picture of him onto the blog back when I featured some recent TMNT purchases... so you may remember him. 

I want to keep Toothless up in my desk area as he is adorable and I want to look at him A LOT. But he doesn't look like he's so sure of this living arrangement... there's a heavy Pixar presence here on this particular shelf. Even if the Turtles have taken over the Pizza Planet truck. We'll have to see if his quarters end up moving in the near future.

HTTYD2!!! Oh... Oh My GODS You Guys...

Oh... Oh my GODS you guys...

I just heard the news... and I am so excited. They are doing a How To Train Your Dragon 2!!!

I saw it over at the Multiplex site (which is an amazing web-comic, and you should read it if you haven't yet...) but here's the trailer:

Oh my GODS I am so excited about this!!! If for no other reason, I hope it means they will be releasing more Dragon miniatures like these:

Not pictured are my Two-Headed Zippleback and my Red Death (The big guy at the end) miniatures. 

Okay, just needed to jump on here to post about this. The first Dragons is one of my all-time favorite animated movies. It was beautifully done, and amazing to behold. I just hope they don't screw up the sequel the way they've kind of screwed up the TV series on CN.
