All right... the time has come. I am officially getting ready to delete the content from Really Rather Random Guy (dot blogspot dot com) and in preparing for that, I wanted to import a bunch of the content that I know will then be lost forever, by bringing the posts over here to Goodwill Hunting 4 Geeks (dot blogspot dot com). So, with that in mind, I thought I would preface these entries with the fact that they are indeed OLD blog posts from an OLD, now DEFUNCT blog, and cross my fingers and hope that folks will still want to read them.
I should also point out that the "League of Extraordinary Bloggers" is also OLD and DEFUNCT. This post was originally published back on March 13th, 2014. (And yes, I am aware that I posted these out of order... I just don't care.)
But here's the thing... I've really been struggling with this topic! Usually I'm OBSESSED with a whole FLEET of obsessions! Obsessions that send me to eBay on searches for LEGO pieces to complete custom mini-figures:
or Happy Meal toys featuring the Ice Age characters...
or even just the obsession of hitting Goodwill as often as possible in an attempt to make the next big "Find".
Yep... just gonna keep trottin' this one out 'til I die. |
But now, I find my passions cooling. My obsessions... waning.
What am I obsessed with? Not much at the moment. I was obsessed with Scooby-Doo for awhile, directly after discovering the new Mystery Incorporated series.
But now that I've bought the second season on DVD and we're making our way through it... I feel a little less obsessed about it. I still LOVE it... don't get me wrong, but having the DVDs here and knowing we're going to watch our way through them makes me a little less anxious and fixated on all things Scooby-Doo right now.
It's not close enough to Halloween yet for me to be obsessed with ALL THINGS SPOOKY (though I'm always in a little bit of a Halloween-y mood...)
and I'm not currently trying to track down that VITAL piece to any of my many vintage action figure collections or mini-figure collections... or Horror movies... or Hotwheels... or PEZ... or comic books... or Little Golden Books... or FUNKO toys... or whatever...
Pictured above: The room of a man with ZERO obsessions. |
I ALMOST felt myself getting obsessed with tracking down more of the Sesame Street Fisher Price Little People figures... but then the eBay prices very quickly de-obsessed me with that. Right now I'm just not very obsessed with much at all.
So what is a poor man-boy to do when obsession in all its forms has abandoned him???
Obsess over it. I guess I'll obsess over the fact that I have no obsessions at the moment. Or maybe... I'll come to the realization that I have SO many obsessions that they're all just duking it out right now in my subconscious to see who will be the next leader!!! I think Funko's ReAction figures are going to be a looming threat in the near future:
as are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Half-Shell Heroes figurines but those are in the FUTURE...
Of course I loved the LEGO Movie, so getting more of those sets wouldn't be bad...
I guess what I'm also realizing is that it's not really that hard to drum up a new obsession in no time... and I'll probably blog about it here when that happens... so just keep your peepers peeled here for more random obsessions to come!
Let's see what the rest of the League had to say about their Obsessions this week:
That headless horseman LEGO is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteAnd I too am looking forward to those Imaginext-like TMNTs. I'll probably get deeper into those than the standard action figure line!
Thank you! I've been looking for a nice recipe for a Headless Horseman online for a while now but they all just literally leave the heads off and with LEGO figures... it just looks sort of silly with the peg sticking out. So what you see there is an Emperor Palpatine hood and cape... the horse and Saddle are from the Black Knight set 6009, and a half-burgundy shirt that I believe comes from a Knights Kingdom set... I'm just not sure which one. I love the chain with the dangling collected heads (slung over the back-up hatchet, and oozing translucent LEGO blood... although I'm going to switch the mild-mannered LEGO heads I have on there now for some more horrified looking ones soon), and the flaming piece for the top of the Jack-o-Lantern. Wow... I guess I've really been wanting to talk about him.
DeleteAlso, I am a HUGE collector of lines like Super Hero Squad (Marvel), Combat Heroes (GI Joe), Robot Heroes (Transformers), Galactic Heroes (Star Wars), Mystery Mates (Scooby Doo), Toy Story Buddies, and Action League (DC)... so these Half-Shell Heroes are soooo within my wheelhouse. You make a chibi-style mini-figure version of almost any property I like and I will buy it. That's why I also can't wait for the Mini-MotU figures they have planned...
I hear you Brother Derek! When I first saw this subject I was originally going to talk about my latest project, but life has stepped in the way of progress and now my latest obsession is overcoming congestion.
ReplyDeleteIts hard to come up with a new obsession that I haven't drilled into the ground already. At least you have a fun "picture parade" on your little bits of obsession.
I was SO excited to see the LOEG return that I think I got performance anxiety and I blanked. I think most of my obsessions are just sort of back-burnered right now... although I have one obsession I didn't mention on here because it's something I want to announce in the future as a project with some friends.
DeleteI agree with Eric. That Horseman Lego is fantastic! I have to put one of those together sometime.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love the big iconic Halloween characters like Jack Skellington, Sam from Trick R' Treat, and especially the Headless Horseman! I wish Disney had put out some sort of PVC figurine of their ol' HH because I would snap that up in a heartbeat! I'd also love to see an action figure of the new HH from the Sleepy Hollow TV series. His uniform is so cool!
DeleteYour collection room is plain epic ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I fully admit I just wanted an excuse to show it off a little. Been meaning to do a post re-revealing the cave but it's a mess and I'm thinking of re-arranging AGAIN... so I figured I use the pic I had.
DeleteWhat's the Sesame Street toy on the floor called? Used to have that! Think I might need it again ;)
ReplyDeleteNot sure which one you mean, but there's one of those things where you push a button or flip a switch and a character head pops up out of a trapdoor in the toy...
DeleteYup, that's the one ;)
DeleteWe have several of those from Sesame Street and Disney characters and oh my gosh, some kid broke the "button" on Oscar's trap door last week...... I often find myself in situations with company where I am vulnerable in exposing my childishness over these toys. I tried to play it cool but I went in my room with it and kinda had a moment before I came back out.... So, in looking at your cave, I wonder. How do you manage it with the boys? My kids are pretty mellow with all this stuff around here, they've grown up around mom's toys but visiting kids seem to have one mission: climb, obtain and destroy. Do you just lock the cave up when kids come by? No one ever talks about the angst of being a collector in a world of non-appreciators ;) Someone's toddler was chewing on a mini vintage Bert toy last week! I met him in the hallway and gave him the craziest stinkeye when I saw, ha ha! Poor little baby.
