12 Days of Christmas Cassettes: 9 The King (Not that one)

(YES I KNOW TODAY IS LATE. Double posting today! Yeayah!)

Welcome to the Goodwill Hunting 4 Geeks 12 Days of Christmas celebration extravaganza!!! (Don't send me messages telling me that the 12 days of Christmas actually BEGIN on Christmas and end on January 6th, with the Epiphany. I know. But I'm not celebrating that way... so let us quickly move along.)

So today I'm just focusing on an old classic in my family: The King himself... ELVIS.

My family has been Elvis CRAZY as long as I can remember! My Aunt (the one who also loves Garfield) collects Elvis merchandise by the TON. She loves the man. So I grew up listening to Elvis in all his various different iterations and incarnations. This included Christmas Elvis to be sure.

And with Christmas comes an entire assortment of Christmas songs sung by the King himself. There is no such thing as a Christmas without Elvis. I honestly don't feel like sitting and listing off the tracks on these two tapes, but be assured, all of the classics are present and accounted for. "Blue Christmas" makes an appearance, "Here Comes Santa Claus" with its boppy, rockabilly beat... you name it, and its on one of these two cassettes.

Oops! Just tore off my panties and threw them at the screen. Guess I'll quit while I'm ahead.

I'll be going right up through Christmas day itself posting, so be sure to join me back here tomorrow for more of the 12 Days of Christmas Cassettes celebration!!! Merry Christmas and Happy Hunting!

Halloween Countdown Day 20: Dark Future Elvis???

I'm totally stretching it here but I HAD to post this. I JUST found it yesterday for .99 cents, and I couldn't WAIT to share it. So I'm going with the "Dark" part of this title, and the general decor of the cover with the skulls and whatnot, and sharing it as a Halloween book anyway. LOOK at this piece of Beauty:

So this is something that exists. I don't feel the need to read it, EVER. I just wanted to get a picture or two of it and then use that as my computer wallpaper FOREVER. Apparently, it is part of a 4-book series where a retired-not-dead Elvis exists in the alternate historied and dystopian America of 1995. There are three other books in the Dark Future series, which I guess was originally supposed to be a role-playing game but instead ended up as four novels and a board-game instead. The back of the book says he faces off against a bunch of enemies including the Klu Klux Klan, which might explain the copter:

I would be totally down for a whole series of Mad Max-like adventures starring the King here... but as this series is written currently I just don't see it being my thing. But the cover art alone is AMAZING. And just to keep you from feeling cheated, here's a picture of my favorite Elvis toys:

There's the Elvis RV from Cars, the Funko Pop! 1970's Elvis, a Stitch-as-Elvis bobble Happy Meal Toy from 2002, and the S.L.U.G. zombies "Singer Mortis" who is either zombie Elvis or a zombie Elvis impersonator.

So that's absolutely it for today kids! Gonna be a lazy Sunday! But I've got lots of Graveyard-dug Goodwill goodies to share with you in the upcoming days, so keep your eyes PEELED. Until then, Happy Haunting!

Fartsy Arts

So I have a soft spot for quirky art. Velvet paintings of Dogs playing poker... Images of theLast Supper starring breakfast cereal mascots... sculptures built from old army men and spray painted gold.

If it's weird... I appreciate it.

So in my meanderings, is it really a surprise that I would find and love and collect a few quirky art books?

Today's entry is dedicated to books collecting some quirky art subjects... but just a fair warning, not all of them were bought at Goodwill. In the spirit of this site though, they were all bought either second-hand, at salvage/surplus stores, or I just can't remember where I bought them, and I'm sharing them anyway.

In Maine there's a chain of surplus and salvage stores called Mardens and three of the books I'm sharing today came from these stores. In fact, there will very likely be further entries on this blog dedicated to things I've found at Mardens, because the deals are so good, and the shopping is so random, it sometimes feels like a thrift store with a few notable exceptions.

So here is a shot of my collection as it stands so far. A nice, weird assortment of various different topics.
