Quick Stop

So, I've been meaning to tell you all about this really great Quick Stop I made at Goodwill last week, and I find myself staying up late to finally get it posted. What was so great about it? Well, let me give you a hint:

Hostess With the Mostess...?

So I've already lapsed on my commitment to keep posting everyday, even through a move from house to house. In fact, I'm really not sure I can keep things up after today for a little while. I may have to take a brief hiatus from blogging, though it really burns me to do so. Hell, I even had to make my bi-weekly trip to goodwill TODAY because tomorrow afternoon (Payday Friday!!!) is going to be full of moving furniture.

So up is down, left is right, and all has gone to hell. We're talking some real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. 40 years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats... living together! MASS HYSTERIA!

So with all that going on, I thought I'd just focus on another single item that I found at goodwill, and that I love. Here's a hint to what it might be:

And just so you know... even the Goodwill Geek is not Goodwill Ga-Ga enough to buy second-hand foodstuffs.

See what this wondrous item might be after the jump!

Dark and Moody... LEGOs?

As promised, I'm still trying to do some short and sweet blog posts for this week, while we are moving from house to house. Today I'm focusing on another single item, and here's your hint:

Moving puts me in the mind of Vans I guess...

So we are directly in the process of moving homes, and I am super busy. Despite this, I am going to try my damndest to continue posting SOMETHING on here each day. Because I love you.

So I'm featuring a pretty awesome item that I did NOT find at a Goodwill. But in staying with my second-hand geekery theme, I found it in an antique store, for 2 dollars. What was it? Here is a clue:

Movies I'm Looking Forward to IV: This Time It's Personal

It's that time again for me to post a bunch of trailers for movies I'm looking forward to seeing! (sorry, I want to do more, but we closed on our new house yesterday, and we've begun moving in, full-force) So here goes:

"Detention"
This just looks... wild. I want to see it, but I have no pre-conceived notions about actually liking it.

Goodwill Trip: Bangor Store

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I went to Bangor and Brewer ME this past weekend to go school shopping with my family. While there, I made sure to stop into the Goodwills in both of those towns. Today I'm going to share with you some of the things I found in the Bangor store, none of which were jaw-droppingly amazing or anything, but there was one toy in particular that made my day.

I'll post the stuff I found at the Brewer store some other day coming up.

But for now: Bangor. I'll start with the books. There's always books.

Goodwill: Graphic Content

So today I want to take another opportunity to showcase some excellent graphic novels I've found at Goodwill. It's another edition of Goodwill: Graphic Content! All the books featured today were picked up on different trips into Goodwill. Only a few times have I found more than one or two TPBs at a time in one trip... but when I do find them, I jump for joy and startle the cashiers.

The Goodwill Geek's Mailbag!!!

So here's a thing that happened to me today and was pretty exciting... I got some mail!

Of course, when I arrived home, I tossed the package on the bed, left briefly to see a man about a horse... and when I returned, this is what I found:
"Yeah... we need to talk."
It seems that my new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a bit miffed at not having been featured on my blog yet. So they weren't letting me open this package until we came to... an understanding. I promised them I would put up a review within the next few days, and they let me open the package (with some help).

See what we found in the package, after the jump!

Quick Stop

So, I made a quick stop into Goodwill on Saturday while we were out doing laundry. There were a couple of books I'd seen on Friday that I'd passed on but felt like going back for, and any time I go back to the toy department, there's always a good chance that something new has been put out since the day before...

So here's what I got:

Saturday Morning Cartoons!

So it's League of Extraordinary Bloggers time again! This week topic:

Well, since I got up at the butt-crack of dawn as a wee one and stayed glued to the T.V. pretty much from 6 am to Noon (when the boring grown-up stuff came on) I'm going to give you 6 full hours of programming. I'm going to break each hour down into a theme, and I'm going to slip into an adult sized set of footy pajamas and pour myself a bowl of sugary cereal that will tear the roof of my mouth off... and I'm going back in time to when Saturday morning really meant something!

This is a complete cheat. Madballs is nowhere on my list.
But had it been  an actual series on TV, it totally would have been.
NOTE: I did not include a ton of youtube videos. I just felt like it would have made the article go on FOREVER. But I included one for Punky Brewster, because she deserves it. Almost all of these shows have at least theme-songs on Youtube, so you should totally go check them out!
ALSO: I have made revisions to this list, gotten rid of a 5 hour block of honorable mentions, and simply tacked on an additional hour of viewing pleasure at the end, to be (in my mind) less annoying.

Movies I'm Looking Forward to III: Back to the Beach!

The wife and I are headed out to see a drag show tonight, and we were out all day doing laundry (yes I made another sneak run into Goodwill, and made some Quick Stop Finds... but I can't post them tonight) so it's been a busy day, and will continue to be a busy night.

Because of this, here's another collection of six trailers to movies I want to see. Again, I will point out that some of these may be out on DVD as we speak, but they are new-ish to ME, and I am looking forward to checking them out.

Payday Friday!

So Payday Friday is my official day to visit Goodwill. As I've explained before, I sometimes make quick stops here or there for a couple quick items that grab my eye, or sometimes we make a special trip out to one of the bigger stores on the weekends as a family, but Payday Friday is the day I comb the Ellsworth store, top to bottom, inside and out to find the geeky stuff that makes me go "Mmm."

So what did I bring home today? Not a lot honestly. I found six items to buy, and three of them are right here:

Goodwill Gaming: Hero Quest!

All right, I have a lot of guilt over yesterday's post. So I want to make it up to you with a nice juicy post about an awesome game I found at Goodwill for just 1.99! It's a looong one, but with lots of great pictures of the game.

I present to you: Milton Bradley's Hero Quest!!!

Just look at that bitchin' box!

The Count Down Begins

Okay, so I know I've mentioned on here more than once that I am in the process of moving.

My wife and I are in the process of buying a house, and moving our 3 children into it. Our closing dat is next Friday, August 24th. I am sitting in the living room of my apartment, looking at one little shelf of toys I haven't had the heart to pack up yet... trying to stay sane. So there's one reason why today's blog post sucked today.

I am sooo looking forward to my trip to Goodwill this Friday.

Want to see my view? Check it out after the jump.

A Horrible Secret? Probably not...

So just a quickie today kids:

Just a boring, old, dusty pile of classic books...

Or are they...?

The Goodwill Geek Says: Make a Wish!!!

So today I want to focus on just one treasured item I found at Goodwill a while back. I spent a little more than I would for the average item at Goodwill, but have absolutely no regrets. You'll see why in just a moment. What is this item that I treasure so dearly, and that I want to dedicate an entire blog post to?
Well, here's a hint:

Graphic Content

So today I'd like to show off a few more graphic novels I've found at Goodwill. There have been many, but today I am going to focus on two titles in particular:

Comic Book Guy!
Matt Groening's "Simpsons Comics"

He's reading! It's a theme! Sort of.
And Jeff Smith's "Bone"

Another Quick Stop

So a quick post today, detailing another quick stop I made at Goodwill a few weeks back.

I found a trio of books and that was about it... no toys... but the books do look interesting.

Another Bag of Wonders

So today's a big one. I want to focus on another grab bag I picked up at Goodwill once upon a time.

Yessss... there will be toys. These were special ones too. I love finding old treasures at Goodwill. And the post earlier this week about Tri-Clops and Ram-Man was indeed a precursor to this one... but I found THIS particular bag of wonders first. In fact, it could be easily pointed to as the one purchase that changed me from a casual Goodwill shopper... into The Goodwill Geek!

I'm An Official Member of the Dork Horde!

So, after a painful hazing ritual, a few animal sacrifices, a few feats of strength, and a run through the gauntlet below the Lair of the Dork Horde, it's official: I'm a member!

MORE Movies I'm looking forward to...

I've been under the weather for the last couple of days, not really able to get a lot done productively, so here's another handful of movies I've seen trailers for kicking around the web (keep in mind, some of these may have come out already, but I'M looking forward to seeing them):

"Chronicle"
This looks incredible. Any film where ordinary Joes have to deal with extraordinary powers or circumstances  is a great set-up.

A Handful of Single Items

I know I've spent some time detailing the awesome grab-bag finds I've made at Goodwill (and there's more of those to come) but today I thought I would focus on some single items that I've picked up at Goodwill. these are things that have been found sitting all by their lonesome and were brought home to live on my shelf:

REBOOT!

Well, it's time for another entry towards the League of Extraordinary Bloggers theme of the week.

This weeks topic: REBOOTS!!!

NO. Not that REBOOT.
Reboot and Recast! "Remake one of your favorite movies with a cast of current Hollywood stars." And what movie will I be rebooting and recasting? I think I'm going to have to go with...

KRULL!!!

Bag of Wonders, Revisited

Here's a quick post about a 1.99 grab bag with some pretty awesome toys in it I found a few months ago. It is also a precursor to a big post I'll drop sometime this week, about one of my most favorite Goodwill finds of all time.

Graphic Content

One of my absolute favorite things to find at Goodwill is graphic novels. So, today I thought I'd share a handful of Graphic novels I've found while picking around at Goodwill:

All of the books I show you today are from different trips a while back now, so this is kind of a highlights reel instead of a single haul.

Payday Friday

So, today was Payday Friday, which comes once every two weeks. It is a bi-weekly holiday because it marks my regular visit to Goodwill. now, I occasionally sneak in additional visits on Laundry Day, or on trips to other towns with my wife and kids. But this is Payday Friday... and it is the Goodwill visit I look forward to the most.

At first I was convinced that this trip to Goodwill was going to be a complete bust. I was going to walk out empty handed. I was despondent. Destroyed. My Goodwill experience was going to be... bad.

It turned around after a while, and I found a handful of fun books, a couple of mugs, and a toy I was actually very excited to bring home and display on my shelf.

First of all, the half-off color is currently green. So when I found one of these first two books, and saw it was half off, I laughed out loud and knew it had been left there specifically for me, considering the League's assignment this week: A book about Road trips, "Road Trip USA"! by Jamie Jensen, from Moon Travel Handbooks.

The 2.99 Bag of Wonders

So here's one of the most exciting things about Goodwill: Once upon a time you had to rummage through a big bin of old Happy Meal toy refugees, and play-set cast-offs, and cereal premiums, and quarter machine detritus and pay up to .99 cents a piece for each item. No longer. Goodwill dispensed with the old rummage bins because there was a lot of crap that people just weren't buying. Like Country Bears toys, among other horrible items. So what was the solution? Grab bags! Clear plastic grab bags filled with random goodies that you might, or might not, want. The beauty of these bags is that they almost always have a couple of fun items in them, and they are usually priced anywhere from .99 cents to 2.99 for the whole bag. When I've picked out the other stuff I don't want, I just re-donate them... because who knows, maybe someone out there actually collects those Madame Alexander Happy Meal dolls. (If you do, it's okay... and I'll be sure to send them right back to Goodwill so you can find them, right after I cherry-pick all the Spider-Man and Star Wars figures)

So on a recent trip to the Belfast, ME Goodwill I found the following items in just such a grab bag. The price was 2.99 for the whole lot, and the bag looked like it had been put together for me specifically:

Movies to Look Forward To

Good lord there's a lot of good looking movies coming out... of course I STILL haven't seen Cabin in the Woods, or Dark Night Rises... but I'm already looking to the future. Today I'm going to drop an easy post in here and store up my energy for a big, juicy post with some nice toy pictures tomorrow.

So without further ado, here's 6 movies I'm looking forward to very much:

Grabbers
This one looks like it's going to be similar to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in all the right ways, with the same charming Irish humor found in movies like Waking Ned Devine, and the creatures right out of a Lovecraft novel.
